Dear friends,
Yesterday I/we learnt of the Committee's decision of not allocating any boxes in the Members stand. I personally don't see the point in doing so and after having spoken to a lot of members/owners/box holders, decided to write to you since we all felt that you should rethink this decision even before the first weekend of racing.
1st & 2nd floors.
The 1st 2 levels may be allocated the same way as before with the same charges to the same people. There are members who feel that they would make their way up to the 2nd floor even without the lifts rather than be deprived of their regular seating positions to watch a race. Needless to say that we all will be deprived of our seats as anyone(incl. non-members) can come on a "first come first served" basis and occupy all the seats. On big days, this would be a disaster.
3rd floor.
For the members/box holders of the 3rd level, you could make a separate entrance and lift to the 1st enclosure stand which was renovated couple of years back for corporate sponsors. On this deck, you could even reserve seats for the same members/box holders of the 3rd level without charging them for it for this one season. This deck should have catering facilities and tote counters, mobile totes, etc. as on the other floors of the main stands. Further, you could place seats in front of the new stand and a few tables with umbrellas on the front lawns to accomodate those members who do not want to either go up to the 2nd floor or to the arrangements in the 1st enclosure.
Those members not wanting to take their box for this season only, may not be allotted their boxes and those could be kept as free seating for members only on display of membership badges/cards. This would help in avoiding non-members using these boxes on big days. Also, these empty boxes could be used by members of the upper 2 floors who may not want to climb the stairs.
I am sure you would have taken into account the loss of revenue by way of box rentals and TV maintenance charges which I am sure the Club would need at this juncture.
Lastly, let me assure you gentlemen that this would be the most unpopular/unfair decision in the history of the the RWITC thus far. All the members and owners have gone through a lot of trauma and disappointment after what has transpired with the horses. The least the club could do is give them their regular seating(safe haven) to come and enjoy their few months of racing.
We still have a few days before the commencement of the racing season and I trust you will look into this matter and oblige before the start of the season.
